Open Consumables¶
Measured baselines for everyday hardware.
Open Consumables is a measurement archive for everyday hardware. We don't manufacture, certify, or curate. We document the accidental open-hardware standards already running inside the consumer-goods aftermarket, freeze them as dated measured baselines, and publish so anyone can keep buying, printing, or batch-producing to fit.
What this site covers¶
- Project overview, what we do, what we don't do, and why
- The open consumables concept, the framing, the wedges, the prior art we look up to
- Categories, the consumable categories under measurement, starting with electric toothbrush heads
Current focus¶
The pilot category is electric toothbrush heads, working name OpenBrush. Five additional categories are scaffolded but deferred: air filters, water cartridges, robot vacuum consumables, electric razor heads, scooter parts, humidifier wicks.
See Toothbrushes for the active work.
Reference models¶
We look up to USB-C, VESA, MX-compatible, QMK as aspirational reference models. The realistic near-term mechanic is closer to ISO fasteners, generic pharma equivalents, and hospital procurement catalogs: substitutability of supply, not network effects.
Status¶
Pre-product. Public documentation reflects measurements as they land, not before. Specs are dated baselines, not stewarded standards.
